Workflow Configuration export import

For Microsoft Dynamics AX, in a multi-company environment, it may need to import workflow configuration from one company to other. Let’s see what we are talking about

As we can see, we have workflow configuration, for sales order, in company CEU.

Now we are going to import it into other company. Before export-import make sure which version we have to take from one company to other. A workflow may have many version (different configuration), so its our decision that which version we have to take from one company to other.

Select your needed version/ configuration and Export it by clicking export.

Select file path to save it somewhere.

Click OK to save the configuration at the specified path.

Now let’s import this workflow configuration in a new company.

As we can see above, we are here in company SUSB, where we do not any workflow configuration yet.

Let’s click on import button.

We selected the same file, which was exported few moments ago from company CEU.

Simply click ok to finish import. Make sure to mark the checkbox, under options on dialog where it asks to carte new workflow version in case of conflict.

Click OK to finish the import process for workflow configuration.

Challenges

Sometimes as you will try to import some workflow configuration, and despite of the fact that you marked the checkbox to resolve conflict of version, you may get version conflict.

1.       In such case right click your exported Configuration file workflow in notepad or visual studio, or any text editor and find the workflow id (the same workflow id which belongs to the exported workflow).

2.       Go to system administration, go to parameters, go to number sequences, o to workflow id number sequence and see the next number, replace the next number in your exported file of workflow configuration and re-import in ax.
