How to Backup Customizations In AX

Background: 

Many times people come around, a question that they want to take customization from one server to another, specifically in a scenario when customization have been done, on USR Layer. Although in a standard Dynamics AX 2012, e.g. for a entire module there is concept of models. But in order to collect/backup Customization in general, here goes the procedure.

Procedure:

1)      Press Ctrl+Shift+P (Ctrl+Shift+P Opens Project) 

2) Create a new project in Projects >> Shared >> New >> Project

3)  Give this newly created project, some useful name, Useful name could be combination of Current Date, Your System/Server Name and Keyword Backup

4)  Right click this newly created Project and Click Open

5)  Press Ctrl+F3 (Control F3)

As you will press Ctrl+F3, it will open a new Window, as shown below:

6)      Under Groupings Node select AOT and Press Select Button, as shown below, in following 2 figures

7)      As you will Press Select Button, a new Dialog Window will appear as under:

8)      Find the Layer under Field(Column) and under Criteria select USR; Here and important point need to be remembered that if you are unable to see word Layer in column Criteria, Click Add button(you can see Add button in above image)

9) Click OK Button

10) Click OK button on the window you saw in step 6

11)      That’s all, wait now for few moments, just after few moments it will show you all of your customized objects in newly created project.

Now your backup is ready in this newly created project with all the customizations done on USR Level.

Juts Import this Project and Preserve it somewhere or you may import it in any other system if you want to transfer to some other system. Also if you you want to take backup for customizations for some other layer too e.g VAR, you may add this to range where you added USR i.e. in step 8.
